Support
Email hello@aimantas.com with your macOS version and what you expected to happen. A screenshot helps, as long as it shows nothing private.
Getting started
- Open Shotbar. Its icon (four corner brackets around a small card) appears in the menu bar.
- In the welcome window, click Choose Folder… and pick the folder where your screenshots are saved. That's the Desktop unless you changed it.
- Take a screenshot with ⇧⌘4, then click the icon or press ⌃⌥S.
Fixes for common problems
I can't see the icon in the menu bar
On MacBooks with a notch, macOS hides menu bar icons when there isn't room. Press ⌃⌥S to open Shotbar anyway, or quit an app whose icon you don't need.
New screenshots appear after a few seconds
macOS writes the file only after its floating thumbnail disappears. Press ⇧⌘5, open Options and turn off Show Floating Thumbnail.
Some screenshots are missing
- Check the folder: Settings → Folders lists what Shotbar watches. Add the folder your tool saves to.
- By default only screenshots are listed. If you copy images in from elsewhere, turn off Show only screenshots in Settings → General.
- A folder marked "Access lost" was moved or renamed. Remove it and add it again.
Search doesn't find a word I can see
- Shotbar may still be reading. The bottom of the panel says how many screenshots are left.
- Very small or stylised text reads better with Settings → Text → Recognition set to Accurate. Then click Read All Again.
The shortcut doesn't work
Another app may use the same keys. Settings → General shows a warning when that happens. Click the shortcut and press a new one with ⌘, ⌃ or ⌥.
Reset Shotbar completely
Quit Shotbar from its menu (right-click the icon). In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder and open ~/Library/Containers/. Move com.aimantas.Shotbar to the Trash. The next launch starts fresh. Your screenshots aren't touched.
Uninstall
Quit Shotbar, turn off Open at login in its settings if you turned it on, then move the app to the Trash. Delete the container folder above to remove its index too.
